This new five day portrait workshop is an intensive and concentrated curriculum covering the creation of a portrait painting from start to finish. Adrian Gottlieb’s course centers on canons of proportion, gesture and comparative measurement as the foundations for portrait painting. During the week, students will create a fully finished painting, painting alongside Gottlieb as he explains each stage of his direct painting method, step by step. Techniques will include alla prima and transparent vs opaque color with a goal of achieving luminosity and capturing the illusion of form. Long poses are essential to Gottlieb’s approach, therefore a live model will return to the same position every day for the full five sessions.
