Adrian Gottlieb’s course centers on the sight-size method, analytical drawing, proportion and gesture as the foundations for figurative painting. During the course, students will create a fully finished painting, painting alongside Gottlieb as he explains each stage of his direct painting method, step by step. Techniques will include alla prima and transparent vs opaque color with a goal of achieving luminosity and capturing the illusion of form. Long poses are essential to Gottlieb’s approach, therefore a live model will return to the same position every day for the full ten sessions. This course will include group trips to museums in Rome to view and discuss master paintings.

“We believe that Rome provides the ideal classroom in which to study the immortal art of the past and create great art for the future. We are committed to providing an experience in which participants have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the artistic life of the Eternal City. We provide a unique combination of daily visits to see some of the most important paintings and sculptures in history and daily work in our Renaissance era studios. THE WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE
“The ancient city of Rome serves as both the setting and the classroom for Rome Art Workshops. Strolling from your apartment in the historic center of the city to our studios in the famed Campo de’Fiori you cross the Tiber River, stop at a cafe for a cappuccino and pass through the most famous fruit and vegetable market in Rome. During each of the two week workshops you will be immersed in the artistic and cultural life and legacy of the Eternal City.”
